How I Learned To Fall Asleep Naturally And Wake Up Energised

For many of us, getting to sleep at night is a huge issue.

Then actually staying asleep, instead of waking up constantly and worrying about everything from work, money, family and friends can be another problem. Many of us toss and turn all night, then find ourselves in a vicious circle where we are cat-napping throughout the day and just never really full of energy and awake.

Kerri Beaumont, who is a mother of four struggled with insomnia

Kerri Beaumont, (pictured above) who is a yoga teacher and divides her time between London and the South of France, found her body clock had been broken after having four kids in five years and that she was waking up twice in the middle of the night – long after her babies had started sleeping through the night:

“I had four kids in just over five years,” she tells Lumity. “I found that even though my youngest is five years old now that I was continually waking up in the night. I had become so used to doing night feeds and one or other of my children wanting something that I had completely messed up my body clock.

“My cortisol levels were through the roof because I was stressed and even though I am a yoga teacher and eating all the right things and very aware of what I put into my body I was so tired in the mornings that I was drinking black coffee.

“So my cortisol was going up and down and I was really quite exhausted without realising it.

“A friend recommended that I take Lumity, which is an all natural, carefully balanced supplement. She said it would help me sleep but also boost my energy levels naturally. I tried it because by that stage I was pretty tired.

“Within three weeks I was going to bed and sleeping deeply for the first time in years.

“I could not believe it. I was waking up with energy and didn’t feel like I needed lots of coffee to kick-start my system because I was already ready to go.

“At first I thought it couldn’t be down to an all natural supplement, so I stopped for a week to test. Sure enough, I started waking up in the night and feeling tired in the day. I’m back on it now and feeling fantastic, I have so much energy – sleeping well is really something that changes every aspect of your entire life.”

Dr. Robert S. Rosenberg, who is a Board Certified Sleep Medicine Physician and author of Sleep Soundly Every Night, Feel Fantastic Every Day, says that he has a vitamin packed smoothie before bed every night:

“About one hour before bedtime, I like to have a small smoothie. I make sure it has tart cherry juice, which in a recent study done at Louisiana University, has been shown to increase sleep, because of its melatonin content as well as phytonutrients that inhibit the breakdown of tryptophan.

“I also include a banana which contains tryptophan, magnesium, potassium and vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine). Tryptophan is converted to serotonin and melatonin. Magnesium and potassium relax muscle and nerve cells and B6 is necessary for the conversion of tryptophan into serotonin. I add some almond milk for more tryptophan and magnesium. Lastly, some flaxseed for omega 3’s that tend to be calming.”
