The Beauty And Health Boosting Superfood The A-List Is Raving About

Turmeric has been hailed as a wonder superfood this month after a new study which was published in the journal Phytotherapy Research, claims that it is safe for treating depression, and that in some cases, it can be more effective than anti-depressants.

And, a number of stars – including Gwyneth Paltrow, Thandie Newton, Michael Caine, Rosie Huntington-Whitely, Miranda Kerr and Scarlett Johansson are all devotees of this orange-hued spice.

Turmeric has a number of anti-aging benefits, and has been shown to improve skin as we age. It helps stimulate new cell growth and keep the skin’s elasticity intact; which benefits and tightens thinning skin and fights off hormonal break outs and spots because it calms and controls oily and sensitive skin. It also helps acne scars heal quickly.

But turmeric doesn’t only boost your mood and improve your skin; it contains a compound called curcumin, which comes with an array of powerful anti-inflammatory and strong antioxidant benefits that pack a powerful punch for aiding healing after a serious illness and strengthening your immune system to prevent a variety of health problems.

There have been over 6000 studies into curcumin, and the majority found that its benefits are equal to that of at least SIXTEEN pharmaceutical medications.

As well as fighting depression, it has been shown to be particularly effective at combating chronic inflammatory diseases – and the key to disease reversal in many cases may be turmeric’s ability to keep inflammation at bay.

Studies show turmeric can combat swelling and inflamed cells. Its strong anti-inflammatory properties act against the development of rheumatoid arthritis and delay it. When taken in supplements, turmeric also eases joint pain. If you have stomach problems, then turmeric can help ease IBS and Crohn’s Disease.

Turmeric helps in detoxifying the liver, which further prevents the risk of hepatitis, cirrhosis and jaundice.

As well as boosting vitality, turmeric can slow down Alzheimers disease and even speeds up fat metabolism which not only means it can help you lose weight, it improves digestion and reduces gas plus bloating.

It has been shown to prevent many different types of cancers and may play a role in fighting bladder, lung, prostate, breast, colon, uterine and pancreatic cancer if taken daily, and even slows the side effects of diabetes.

Turmeric’s antibacterial properties can strengthen your immune system if taken over time and it speeds recovery time after an illness or injury.

Taken daily turmeric is proven to be beneficial to everyone: Lumity contains turmeric suspended in flaxseed oil for maximum bioavailability, and taking these softgels every day and night is an easy way to ensure you’re getting the correct amount your body needs every day to benefit from its staggering array of healing abilities – which will leave you dazzling from the inside out.

As well as cooking curries, soups and spices containing turmeric, you could also try making a face mask to benefit from this wonder-food. To make a face mask, mix 1 tbsp of turmeric, 3 tbsp of yoghurt, 3 tbsp of flour and a drizzle of honey together and leave on for 15 minutes before washing off.

Thandie Newton says she she uses a few drops in her tinted moisturiser, and Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley swears by regular turmeric face masks.

Turmeric also acts as a natural tooth whitener; you can try dipping your wet toothbrush in a dab of turmeric, before brushing your teeth as normal. Let the powder sit for a few minutes and then rinse off.

According to Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop website, you can make a warm latte with almond milk, ginger, coconut sugar, coconut oil and turmeric.

And, golden milk (which is a drink containing turmeric paste) is being touted as having magical healing abilities by health gurus.

How to Make Golden Milk:

1 teaspoon of organic coconut oil
