How To Restore Your Glow When You’re Fatigued

With the festive season duly upon us, not only are we inclined to more rounded bellies but, with the dehydrating effects of both the weather and the excesses of alcohol; fewer gym visits and, one too many chocolates; let’s face it, our skin can start to look a little bloated and fatigued too!

So, what are some of the things you can do to avoid festive bloat face and restore your glow even when you’re feeling tired and frazzled?

If you can’t face the gym, don’t just get outside for the infamous Christmas Day walk but, take a daily brisk walk in the fresh air and get your circulation going – it will oxygenate your skin, get those ‘feel good’ endorphins going and bring some colour back into those cheeks!

Whether you’re inside or out, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Not only should you be drinking plenty of water in between all that mulled wine and sherry but, I’d recommend your skincare routine be supplemented with some additional hydration too. The Ordinary’s Buffet is a peptide, amino acid, probiotic and hyaluronic acid rich serum, which will plump out those wrinkles and firm your skin in no time. The Ordinary’s Hyaluronic Acid serum with vitamin B5 will provide extra hydration and help fight inflammation.

Make sure you exfoliate with an AHA such as Pixi Glow Tonic and get rid of all those dead skin cells that will be making your skin look dull and untoned – the products that you apply after you’ve exfoliated will penetrate much deeper too.

Avoid ruddy cheeks by strengthening those capillaries and, fight those free radicals with the vitamin C that’s in Lumity’s daytime capsules and, be sure to incorporate a topical vitamin C into your skincare routine. I use The Ordinary’s Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F which is an oil based serum that doesn’t cause the irritation sometimes associated with topical vitamin C treatments.

In between parties and when you have an evening free, take a long soak in some Himalayan Bath Salts, an excellent detoxifier and, apply a hydrating or detoxing face mask, such as Omorvicza Ultramoor Mud Mask or for a less expensive option, try Liz Earle’s Intensive Nourishing Treatment Mask.

If you haven’t already, add a good quality face oil into your routine. Some of my favourites and more well priced oils are Alex Carro Balancing Facial Oil, Nourish Radiance Firming Facial Oil and The Ordinary’s Rosehip Seed Oil. If you’ve got cash to splash, go for Vintner’s Daughter or May Lindstrom’s Youth Dew.

Apply your oil with a facial massage technique and you’ll be amazed at how good you look even after a night on the tiles! Facial massage helps to remove toxins, reduce puffiness, prevent fluid retention and can help to tone and lift even the most tired looking face! I love this facial massage technique.

Applying an eye cream that addresses all those nagging eye concerns – dark circles, puffiness and fine lines is a must! Try Hylamide SubQ Eyes.

Finish off with a nourishing moisturiser that will encourage a dewy glow such as Omorovicza Blue Diamond Super Cream or, I like cheap and cheerful M&S Super Grape Day Cream with resveratrol or The Ordinary’s Natural Moisturising Factors with HA.

Use a primer or BB cream to cover up any redness or irritations such as Omorovicza BB Cream SPF20 which is pricey but  lovely or, at the less spendy end, try Ren’s Satin Perfection BB Cream.

Don’t forget your sunscreen either! I love Ultrasun Anti-Age SPF 30 with antioxidants and made for sensitive skin.

Protect those luscious lips for another round of mistletoe madness with Reve de Miel lip balm from Nuxe and, set your brows in place and condition those lashes with Joan Collins Lash Treatment and you’re ready to ‘face’ another day!

And finally, if you can find a quiet moment get yourself booked in to  have some LED light therapy – it will really make you look and feel human again!

Have a wonderful festive season; and whatever you do, don’t forget to take time out from the festivities for yourself to relax and enjoy it all.
