-Nov 11, Hannah Hargrave , Living -
By the time you celebrate your 50s you may consider yourself a veritable expert on life and life experiences (and you probably are), but there’s a whole lot more that happens in and beyond your fifth decade, which you may not have accounted for.
While no two lives are the same and how you view the ageing process differs from one woman to the next, Lumity believes there are some universal ‘need-to-knows’ which can help guide you through life after 50 and make it even more fabulous than it already is.
There’s more to life than what you weigh
Turf the scales out the window and focus on your health, your family and your friends instead of obsessing about having the perfect body.
It isn’t downhill after 50
Forget the notion that nothing good is going to happen now that you’re past 50. Many people insist life actually gets way better. You’re more content, less stressed and even more confident.
You can still change careers
Don’t let age stop you doing what you truly love. Plenty of women post 50 are now launching new careers. Look at 80-year-old Beate Howitt! She finally fulfilled her dream of becoming a model as an octogenarian and that was after getting her degree at 60 and her MA in her 70s.
Strength training is for you
As you age you lose muscle mass and so strength training keeps you strong! But it doesn’t have to mean masses of weights in the gym. Yoga, Pilates or even a routine using your own body weight at home will go a long way.

You need good friends
Good friendships are hard to find, so if you have a pal who makes you laugh and doesn’t judge you, hold on tight to them.

Stop peeking over the fence and convincing yourself it’s better over there, because it never is.
You should laugh at yourself
As you get older you’ll regain the childish ability to giggle at yourself and be a clown without worrying what other people think and that sense of humour is refreshing for you and everyone around you.
Fear will be less of a factor
You may think you were bold and brave when you were in your 20s but actually many women find they get their gusto later in life and are no longer afraid to take the plunge.
