While it’s important to protect your skin all year round the warmer weather and sight of the sun gives us that nudge to remember to lather up and look after our skin.

But with so many products on the shelves it can be difficult to decide which sunscreen to choose. If you’re thinking about ditching chemical protection in favour of a mineral suncream here are some of the benefits.

You want to do what’s best for your skin and defend it against premature ageing, sun damage and skin cancer and a huge factor in this is wearing sunscreen. Nowadays there’s an array of fantastic all-natural chemical free sunscreens. Here are some reasons you should choose one.

Mineral sunscreen protects against UVA and UVB

Mineral sunscreens deliver a power double punch because they not only protect against UVB radiation they protect against UVA too. This basically means that instead of just protecting against the ultraviolet rays that produce sunburn (UVB) they also protect against the rays (UVA) that penetrate the skin more deeply and can cause ageing skin.

Look for the label that says ‘broad spectrum’ protection and you’ll know you have the right one.

Mineral sunscreen is good for sensitive skin

Chemical free sunscreens are way less likely to irritate your skin so it’s great for you or your children who may have sensitive skin too.

Because mineral sunscreens don’t get absorbed and instead just sit on the skin to deflect the UV radiation the ingredients won’t penetrate the epidermis and you won’t be left itching, scratching or coming out in a rash because of it.

Suncream doesn’t have to mean breakouts

If you suffer from acne or breakouts the very thought of applying a chemical suncream can make you lock the door and stay inside. Mineral sun protection is far less likely to aggravate skin conditions but do be warned that some mineral formulas can sink into the pores and cause pimples. Look for the word ‘non comedogenic’ on the packaging as this means it won’t infiltrate your pores and will keep spots at bay.

Why mineral creams start working immediately

Once you’ve applied your mineral sunscreen you’re ready to go! There’s no waiting for the cream to be absorbed because as soon as it’s smoothed onto your skin you are protected by the barrier it creates.

This is also great for kids who simply can’t wait to get outside and enjoy the sunshine.

Mineral sunscreens don’t have to turn you white

Old mineral formulas used to leave you looking like a ghost since the thick white cream would sit on the surface. Now though most of them have evolved and you’d never even know you were wearing it. Some are even tinted so you can go easy on the foundation too.
