-Aug 9, Jenny Paul, Beauty -
Cayli Cavaco Reck is one of those people who you fall in love with through their Instagram account and, thanks to her inside beauty and lifestyle knowledge, paired with sharp, witty quips on modern life, she has developed an army of devoted online followers. We asked her for her favourite beauty buys.
Cayli Cavaco Reck is the beauty aficionado behind the Knockout Beauty store in New York. And even has fans who stop her for beauty advice in the street if they see her out and about.
In the of summer of 2016, Cayli opened her own chic, curated boutique in Bridgehampton. And lucky holiday-makers in the Hamptons can swing by, see her in person and ask for advice before buying the products.
It was such a hit that the store in New York soon followed.
This sounds like our idea of heaven. The shop stocks cult beauty products like Tenoverten nail polish, Smith & Cult lip glosses, R & Co. haircare, skincare from Sunday Riley, 37 Actives, Joanna Vargas and Lumity, as well as many more of Cavaco Reck’s other favourite finds.
We were dying to talk to born beauty insider Cayli. (She’s the daughter of not one but two former Vogue editors, Paul Cavaco and Kezia Keeble. And she grew up around the Supermodels of the ’90s backstage at Paris haute couture shows and on glossy fashion magazine shoots.
Of course we wanted to find out what her latest beauty obsessions are.
How did you develop so much knowledge about beauty?
Cayli says: “I was raised macrobiotic and with a very strong compass for wellness. Dr. Hauschka, Weleda, and Mill Creek were all mainstays in our household.
“My parents were both fashion magazine stylists, my mother worked at Vogue and my father was the creative director of Allure magazine, plus the former fashion director of Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar.
“So I was raised around top hair stylists and make-up artists, which was so much fun.
“Together my parents went on to form fashion public relations powerhouse KCD [Keeble Cavaco & Duka] when my mother was pregnant with me.
“So from birth onwards I would sit in on fashion shoots and learn tricks of the trade from the experts working on the shoots with top Supermodels.
“They were all like family to me and my life has been spent either backstage at runway shows or on editorial shoots.”
But tragedy struck the family when Cayli was in her early teens:
“My mom died when I was 13 so for me beauty was a voyage of self-discovery.
“I am very aware that what you put on your body goes in your body so I’m a fan of conscious beauty.
“I follow the 80/20 rule which is that 80% of the time I follow an organic and green lifestyle.
“I work out, use organic products, but not so much that it becomes an obsession – otherwise it can be too unmanageable.”
Your store sells prestige beauty – what are your top products at the moment?
“It’s so hard to pick just a few but I love Death Valley Dry Shampoo.
“Alexandra Wagner does a fantastic facial exfoliator. I am obsessed with La Crème Beauté Bee Venom cream which is nature’s wrinkle smoother
“I love Vintner’s Daughter’s facial oil and I always use a derma-roller.
“Lilah B does a great black eye shadow that you can use with a brush and create the perfect cat eye with instead of using eyeliner.
“Deborah Lipman does a fantastic lavender nail varnish which corrects that yellow tone you can get from wearing varnish all year, and Spa Ritual’s CC Crème colours are nude nail treatments.”
Any other beauty tips that are really easy for everyone to do?
“Shave your legs with coconut oil, Cocovit is fantastic. And for lovely long eye-lashes use Revitalash and store it next to your toothbrush so you never forget to use it.”
