Now that spring is finally here in the northern hemisphere we feel that it’s the perfect time to celebrate women globally.
And we need your help.
Whether it’s somebody in the public eye, a friend or a colleague, or yourself, it’s likely that you’ll have a strong woman in your life that inspires you.
What we would love you to do is post a photo that represents a strong woman on your favourite social media channel (ideally Instagram or Facebook) with a description or anecdote about an amazing woman whose strength, whether emotional or physical, has touched you.
Use the hashtag #LumityStrongWomen and tag us in – it’s @LumityLife on both Instagram and Facebook.
You could do a video post that tells the story if you like, or you can simply write it.
Your post can be about any subject and any situation: What we are interested in is celebrating strong women worldwide, for all kinds of reasons.
Perhaps a teacher at school set you on a path that became your passion in life. Maybe a friend has battled adversity or illness to go on and raise money for charity. Or, it could be about your mother – working tirelessly to keep you and your siblings well fed when you were small.
We will post a collection of our favourite ones here to inspire other people, and gift a bottle of Lumity’s new Facial Oil to five random people who have posted using the #LumityStrongWomen hashtag.
Catt Sadler is one of our own favourite strong women. Although admittedly it’s pretty impossible to pick just one woman that we are inspired by and look up to here at Lumity.
The American TV presenter (pictured above) has just been through a really tough year on both a personal and a professional level. She faced the rigours of divorce, a family member becoming unwell and a highly-publicised pay dispute with her employers – which saw her quit her role as a well-loved primetime TV news anchor last December.
She’s a working single mother-of-two, and instead of taking to her bed and feeling sorry for herself, Catt has brilliantly used her position and voice as a woman in the public eye to tell her story and advocate for equal pay. This has inspired thousands of other woman to share their stories and speak up when they’re being treated unfairly.
Catt’s experience and bravery has helped to kick-start a narrative which movie star Jennifer Lawrence is keen to continue. The pair are teaming up to film a documentary TV series which explores gender equality, the pay gap and other important – and difficult – issues that women face today.
That means double the star power and twice the exposure for the subjects that need further discussion.
Jennifer let slip about the project while at women’s workspace The Wing in February: “I’m going to be EPing a show with Catt Sadler,” she said.
Sources added that the docuseries will air later this year and comes after Jennifer applauded Catt for her bravery and sharing her story in a post on her public Facebook account.
Catt told The Hollywood Reporter: “Jennifer Lawrence has become a friend of mine — really, a hero of mine.”
She added: “Long before my own experiences, her voice has been an empowering one and one I’ve always admired. To have her in my corner is hard to put into words, to be honest.”
She explained: “In this weird sense, I feel like I have an obligation to do work and represent the many voices who don’t have an audience. Between #MeToo, Time’s Up, and the general climate right now, I would prefer to use my voice in a way that could create content that has never been made before.”
A strong woman indeed.
Who inspires you? We can’t wait to hear your stories. Don’t forget – use the hashtag #LumityStrongWomen so we can see your posts.
