How to look after your skin when you’re under stress

-Mar 31, Hannah Hargrave , Beauty -

During times of worry and stress it’s not only your mind and body that can get a little overwhelmed, your skin can pay the price as well. But you don’t have to let those stress hormones take over your complexion, because there are ways to keep the glow, even in times of woe.

It can be frustrating when your skincare regime hasn’t changed and yet your complexion has suddenly gone completely downhill. If you’re noticing you’re breaking out in spots, your skin is dry or your face just looks a little lackluster, stress could be the culprit.

We often think about the effects stress has on our waistlines and our minds, but we forget the enormous impact it can have on skin.

While stress may be unavoidable – especially in the current climate – there are things you can do to protect your skin and slow down the damage it causes.

Remember your skincare regime

With so much buzzing around in our brains you may have let your skincare regime dwindle, without even realising it.

Forgetting to cleanse your skin for starters could be leaving it prone to breakouts and while one day of missed moisturiser might not make much of a difference, over time it can definitely leave you high and very dry.

So, ensure you’re keeping up with your skincare regime to give your skin the best chance it has to look and feel great.

Lumity’s all-natural morning and evening routine is easy and effective and won’t take up much space on your beauty shelf either.

  • Step 1: Cleanse your skin using Lumity’s 4-in-1 Cleanse. It’ll cleanse, remove makeup, gently exfoliate and can be used as a face mask too.
  • Step 3: Take your Lumity Morning and Night Supplements.

Supplements for immune health and great skin

It’s not just what you put on your skin that makes a difference it’s how you nourish your body. While a healthy diet – more on that in a bit – is imperative, you can give your wellness and your skin a  big boost by adding Lumity Morning and Night Supplements to your regime.

Loaded with nutrients and vitamins your body thrives on, the supplements can help you boost your immunity and also your energy in the day time, look after your skin and so much more. They can improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and give your hair and nails a helping hand too.

Eat and drink well

Even if you can’t get all the ingredients you normally can for a balanced diet, you can still make healthy choices, for you and your skin’s sake. Limit salty or sugary processed foods and refined carbs – such as white pasta and bread – which aren’t skin friendly.

Instead ensure you’re hydrating properly to keep your skin supple and elastic to keep fine lines at bay.

Stock up on wrinkles busting tomatoes, avocados, salmon and watermelon to consume the nutrients to beat stress too.

These include vitamin C, magnesium, B vitamins and zinc.

Also reduce your alcohol intake. When you’re stressed it’s easy to turn to the bottle for a calming nightcap, however if you’re overdoing it, alcohol will leave your skin dry, dull, red and far from glowing.

Make me-time

There is absolutely nothing selfish about self-care and me-time. In fact it’s essential if you want to reduce stress and save your skin. Whether you need just 20 minutes to treat yourself to a face mask, read a book, have a bath or to exercise, it’s important to do something you want to do, and try to make a tiny bit of time for yourself each and every day.

Also by nurturing yourself you’ll feel more able and enthusiastic about looking after the people around you.

You are certainly not alone if stress keeps you awake at night, but sleepless nights are doing you nor your skin any good. In addition to creating a nighttime routine to aide sleep you can give your skin a helping hand overnight too.

When you do drift off to the land of nod, reduce the chances of premature wrinkles by laying your weary head on a silk pillow case for less friction. Don’t forget your Lumity Night Supplements and facial massage too and of course ensure you remove your make up before you hit the hay.
