It’s hard to find someone who doesn’t love Drew Barrymore, the actress won our hearts as a child when she played a cherub-faced cutie in ET and has since gone on to star in Grey Gardens, Riding in Cars With Boys, Donnie Darko and The Wedding Singer – to name but a few.
But since having kids Olive and Frankie, the queen of reinvention has started her own wildly popular make-up line called Flower Beauty which is cruelty-free, high quality but not expensive and all about empowering women. (She also sells her own brand of wine, which is equally fantastic – life’s all about balance, after all).
The star recently shared photos of her beauty cabinets (she has two) on her Instagram, and explained that she views the products she uses as, “tools to be the best you. Not you 10 years ago and not being worried about 10 years from now. All your beauty and hard-earned wisdom should be worn on your face like an elegant medal.”
Drew adds: “Don’t mess with your face. I’ve not used fillers or tricks yet. So I turn to innovation in skin care and beauty. Let me turn you on to attainable solutions. Be your best YOU.”
We certainly agree with that. So what are Drew’s top six beauty heros?
One of her favourites is Bioderma’s Créaline H20 Micellar water, which she has used for her entire adult life: “This was taught to me when I was a teenager,” Drew writes. “It’s what all the big make up artists used. Especially on the models at fashion shows who would have extreme make up at times and needed to remove. This is by far the best make up remover I have ever used. I also call it a PRE WASH. sometimes just to get the pollutants off your face before you even cleanse. This used to be only available in France. But now it is much more common in beauty supply stores, chemists and on line! Do not skip this step. It’s so clean. Like water. But doesn’t sting and is an old favorite of the fashion and beauty world.”
Next up is JF Latargue’s dry and thick hair masque: “OK when you have very dry hair… Put this all through your hair,” Drew explains. “Braid it. Sleep. Wash out. Trust. Your hair will be amazing. This isn’t protein that is damaging to your hair after a few hours. This you can leave in overnight. And it secures your follicles. I am a girl who dyes her hair. Trust. This rebuilds it. 24 hour treatment.” One to add to the tips for glossy, healthy hair list.
As a dry shampoo Drew loves Klorane’s oat milk (which we were talking about just last week), saying: “If you are trying to preserve a blow dry or just like slept in hair, this is the best dry shampoo. Poof and marvel. Spray in at roots and then comb out with a thick brush. Like a Mason Pearson.”
When she fancies putting on a face mask, Drew has an entire arsenal, but a favourite is called Hana Cure Effect. She explains it is: “nuts when you take it off you are 10 years younger. You paint it on with a brush. It starts to dry. It pulls. It gets so tight that it literally pulls your face. But, It makes you look so fresh when you wash it off. And it’s so effective. How fun is that in a package.”
Drew also loves M-61’s Power Glow Peel twice a week, which she promises are: “Great disposable pads with acid to clean the skin. Twice a week. Put this on fresh skin to truly get deep and clean. Yet so easy!”
But you won’t believe what her favourite moisturiser is, it’s Shea Moisture’s Baby Healing Lotion which has aloe vera, cocoa butter and Vitamin E and Drew says is “great for children and adults.”
That’s as adorably down to earth as she is.
