Here at Lumity we try not to get too fixated on impossible standards of celebrity perfection. If we look after ourselves the best we can and try where possible to live happy, fulfilled lives, then beauty will follow. But we’re only human, and there are a few celebs who turn our heads whenever we see them gracing the pages of magazines or smiling down on us from the big screen.
While celebrities have some things we will never have (we’re thinking multi-million dollar pay packets and the best post-production editing and photoshopping available) they do also have some things we can learn from – namely the best beauty, nutrition and makeup tips that money could ever buy.
We’re taking a look at the advice some of our favourite celebs over 40 have offered recently about ways to look your best as you age – and it seems to make pretty good sense to us!
Jennifer Aniston, 48
Jennifer Aniston says the key to looking fab is “just eating fruits and vegetables and healthy lean proteins and water—less fried food, of course – fried food is terrible, soda is terrible.” But she has an extra tip that she uses to keep her skin and hair looking as healthy as possible – Royal jelly! “It’s from a beehive, I got it in France but you can get it anywhere.” the former Friends star explains. “I noticed if you take a spoon of that a day it helps.”
Helena Christensen, 48
Supermodel and mum of one, Helana, looks just as stunning as she approaches 50 as she ever did in her heyday on the catwalks of Paris, Milan and London. And for this brunette beauty the key to lasting beauty is taking care of herself from the inside out by taking our nutritional supplement. “I’ve been a long-time believer of the concept that outer beauty reflects inner health,” Helena explains. “Lumity has been an easy, natural way for me to nourish my skin and restore my vitality from the inside out,” she says. “I’ve really noticed an improvement in the quality of my sleep since starting Lumity. I wake up feeling well rested so my energy is up and my skin is glowing.”
Demi Moore, 55
For Demi, it’s all down to moisture – and never, and that means never, forgetting to take off her makeup. “I moisturise, moisturise, moisturise,” the mum of three says. “No matter how late it is when I get home, I take the time to clean and moisturise my face. I’m a big believer in that if you focus on good skin care you really won’t need a lot of makeup.”
Nicole Kidman, 50
Stunning Nicole hit the big 5-0 this year and she looks as stunning as ever. Her secret? Staying out of the sun and allowing her beautifully pale skin to stay just that, rather than risk ageing by chasing the suntan. “It is the worst thing in terms of ageing so I wear a lot of sunscreen,” says happily married Nicole, who has two young children with Keith Urban. “I never go in the sun.”
Helen Mirren, 72
With age comes wisdom, so the saying goes, and we couldn’t agree more. Helen Mirren’s beauty advice just proves it. Her number one beauty must-have? Sleep: “I try to sleep as much as possible. It’s very important and, as you get older, even more so.” If hormonal fluctuations are messing with your body clock, you might be interested in the connections that have been made between amino acids and a better night’s sleep. This study is just one of several that made Lumity want to add amino acids into your capsules.
Drew Barrymore, 42
Drew has grown up on the camera, and after many decades of sitting in the makeup chair with some of Hollywood’s most talented makeup artists, she’s learnt a trick or two she’s keen to share. Some basics – mascara: “In mascara, there is no such thing as too much,” she says. Lipstick: choose the right brand. “I really am opposed to any formula that feathers.” But her biggest nugget of beauty advice is to use a face powder that contains a high SPF. “As you get older, you have melasma and babies, and you get this kind of crazy pigment,” she says. Protect your skin, and set your make-up in one! Genius.
