Colourful makeup is back with a bang and expert Candice Meggan tells Lumity how you can be bold enough to make it work for you.
When you think of adding colour to your makeup palette you perhaps have a flashback to the 80s and blue eyeshadow, but the spring/summer seasons of 2019 is the time for adding some excitement to your makeup regime. The good news is you don’t have to dust off your shoulder pads and take a step back in time because there are exciting, fresh and fabulous ways to create a colourful look whatever your age.
“Bold, colour, makeup trends are rocking red carpets and runways at the moment but it’s not just for A-listers,” says Candice.
While it can be a little daunting to step away from the safe black mascara and subtle lipstick you’ve been wearing for years Candice says with a few tweaks you can be on trend without changing much at all.
“The best advice I can give on using colour is do what feels comfortable to you,” she explains. “So if a smokey eye is far too much to even consider, grab a coloured gel liner and do a cat eye with it.
“You could leave your top lid free of colour and instead smudge a coloured liner through your lower lash line and blend it out slightly so you still have that pop of colour. Then finish off your look with a black or even coloured mascara.”
Of course your eyes aren’t the only place you can bring a little colour.
“You could put the focus on your lips instead,” says Candice who points out it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. “Find yourself a gorgeous red, pink or coral lip colour. I love wearing a coral lip especially in the summer because it makes a statement but only takes about two minutes to apply!”
Candice is also keen on addling Lumity’s Skin Nutrients Facial Oil to your makeup routine too.
“The wet/dewy look is also very fashionable this season and you can achieve it by dabbing a bit of the Lumity oil on the high points of your cheek bones.”
Candice recommends investing in ‘The Mother of Makeup’ Pat McGrath’s new cosmetics line insisting the celebrated makeup artist has reintroduced the bold use of colour “with total abandon.”
But more than it being about keeping up with the fashions Candice says making the decision to do something new with your makeup can do wonders for your confidence.
“Adding a pop of colour to your usual makeup routine can switch things up and give you an extra boost of confidence. Don’t be afraid to experiment and see what works for you.”
