Yoga isn’t just for your body, it is said to work wonders for your face if done regularly. We take a closer look at this completely natural skincare technique. 

 

Meet the new craze taking Hollywood by storm: facial yoga. In a bid to keep their skin looking young, firm and radiant, stars including Jennifer Aniston and Gwyneth Paltrow are said to have turned to this all-natural technique. This facial fitness frenzy is all about keeping the muscles in your face firm, supporting your skin and preventing it from exhibiting those niggly signs of ageing. Tackling everything from dull complexions to sagging skin, we take a look at this new skincare trend.

 

The benefits of facial yoga

 

There’s more than one benefit to practising facial yoga. First of all, it acts as a natural alternative to injectable and invasive skincare procedures. In other words, it’s the answer to anti-ageing skincare for more squeamish beauty lovers or those more interested in the natural approach.

That’s not all though. This massaging facial workout can help boost circulation and remove toxins from the face, reducing puffiness and dark circles, whilst giving your skin tone a new lease of life. What’s not to love? With all of these benefits, comes the accelerated renewal of collagen and elastin, the skin’s natural plumping agents.

 

A step-by-step guide

 

Step 1: Rejuvenating the eye area

Press both of your middle fingers together at the inner corner of each eyebrow whilst also applying pressure to the outer edge of your eyebrow with your index fingers (your fingers will be shaped like a ‘V’). Look up with your eyes and squeeze the lower lids upwards, as if you’re squinting. Repeat and relax around five or six times and then squeeze your eyes tightly shut for ten seconds.

Step 2: Lifting your cheeks and jawline

Hide your lips by pressing them over your teeth to make an ‘O’ shape with your mouth. Smile widely with your lips still pressed over your teeth and repeat five or six times. After this, hold your mouth in a big smile with one index finger on your chin. Move your jaw up and down with your head tilted back. Repeat this twice.

Step 3: Smoothing out frown lines

Place both hands on your forehead with your fingers pointing inwards, spreading them out between your eyebrows and your hairline. Gently sweep your fingers outwards across your forehead applying  a little bit of pressure to slightly tighten the skin. Repeat this ten times.

Step 4: Brightening the eyes

Place each index finger under your eyes pointing inwards. Hide your lips by pressing them over your teeth holding your mouth slightly open. Flutter your eyelids whilst looking up at the ceiling for around 30 seconds.

Step 5: Tighten your neck

Facing straight ahead, put your fingertips on your neck just under the chin, before lightly stroking down to the collarbones with your head tilted back. Repeat this twice before bringing the chin down to the chest. Face forwards once more and jut out your bottom lip as far as you can, pulling down the corners of your mouth. Keep making this face whilst tilting your head back and placing your fingertips on your collarbone. Take four deep breaths here.
