Do you ever feel like you just need to escape your life for a while and have a holiday all by yourself, focussing entirely on your own physical and emotional wellbeing? You certainly wouldn’t be alone. The daily treadmill of work, family, relationships and home can take its toll, making a wellness retreat a very appealing prospect.

According to Euromonitor data published by the Global Wellness Institute, wellness tourism grew by 6.5 percent between 2015 and 2017 – over twice as fast as tourism overall. That increase shows how many people are searching for a remedy to stress and tiredness in their lives. Wellness is all about me-time, and we’re all for it.

However, with so many retreats on offer all across the world, how do you go about picking a good one? We’ve selected five of the best here, featuring everything from mediation and yoga classes to diet cleanses, detoxes, wellbeing support and personal health screening. There’s even a sleep retreat!

Bliss Sanctuary for Women, Bali

This idyllic retreat is just for women – no children or couples allowed – and its billed as a spa and healing holiday for the body, mind and soul. Taking only a handful of women at a time, Bliss Sanctuary personalises your retreat to your needs and is all about rest and reinvigoration. If you like meeting other like-minded women, then this is the retreat for you. The package includes unlimited spa treatments (just imagine), food and yoga along with sightseeing experiences to nearby temples, beaches, shopping areas and mineral springs. Personal drivers chauffer you around and a dedicated hostess tailors the itinerary to you. There’s six women or less to a villa per stay – basically the dream girls’ vacation.

Amchara Detox Retreat, Somerset, UK

If you fancy going on a retreat but would rather stay close to home, then this getaway in the English countryside is just the thing. The Amchara retreat focusses on improving guests’ physical health, emotional well-being and lifestyles. The 19th Manor House is situated near the village of Langford Budville in beautiful private grounds and offers a personalised health screening by the retreat doctor. It’s possible to have advanced functional laboratory tests than can measure your genetics, hormones and your digestive tract helping you to achieve optimal health. Wow.

On this retreat you can spend your time on guided walks, practicing yoga, meditation classes, in the FIRS infrared sauna and watching food demonstrations and educational talks. There’s a naturopath, one-on-one emotional wellbeing support and the opportunity to fast with juices, smoothies and soups provided.

Kamalaya, Koh Samui, Thailand

It’s hard to feel stressed in Thailand. Beautiful beaches, amazing views and spa treatments by the water’s edge… surely retreats were born here? The Kamalaya wellness retreat on the idyllic island of Koh Samui is famed for its stunning hillside location and holistic treatments. Ayurveda, Naturopathy and Traditional Chinese Medicine are just a few of its USPs. A series of wellness programs are on offer including Detox, Stress & Burnout, Emotional Balance, Yoga, Ideal Weight and Structural Revival. Then there’s the amazing-sounding Sleep Retreat and an Optimal Fitness break for those who can’t sit still. The food at the retreat is raved about too.

One guest wrote of her time at Kamalaya: “A magical place, far away from the fast pace and hustle-bustle in life. A place where your spirit, body and mind can find peace.”

Villa Eden, Merino, Italy

Set against a backdrop of snow-topped mountains with its lush gardens, Villa Eden is the perfect spot to get away from it all. It’s a small resort with experts on hand to cater to your personalised retreat. There are different types of retreat from ‘longevity’ – which includes a nutri-genetic test and blood analysis – to a weight loss and detox programme where you see a doctor each day.

If that sounds a bit full-on, the resort has a simple ‘relax’ retreat which includes massages, chakra stimulation, oxygenating facial treatment and phyto-algae therapy. Talk about a new you! A guide can also take you out to the nearby town of Merano should you wish to sightsee, or you can go on a hike, try some yoga or join a power walk.

Escapada Health Retreat, Mallorca, Spain

This Spanish retreat is all about restoring your body’s natural state of balance, and like Bali’s Bliss Sanctuary, it offers women-only getaways. Tucked away in the Mallorcan countryside, the 500-year-old finca (country estate) is a beautiful spot to focus on yourself. The retreat uses an integrative health approach – a medical system that looks at the whole individual and combines science and philosophy. Book a space and you’ll find yourself in a small group with a maximum of 12 guests where the focus is on natural healing, thanks to traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture and Ayurveda. If you’re feeling out of balance, this is your retreat.

Each morning starts with a sunrise meditation, followed by silent early morning hill walks if you fancy. Yoga sessions are big here, as are coastal walks and nightly meditations under the stars. Sounds wonderful!

Don’t forget to pack your Lumity Travel Collection which will ensure you have all that you need in handbag-friendly sizes while you’re away. Includes: 7-day supply of Lumity Day & Night Supplements, Lumity Skin Nutrients Facial Oil 10ml and Lumity 4-in-1 Cleanse Nutrient Rich Skin Saviour.
