If you can’t get to the spa, bring the spa to you! For ultimate indulgence you don’t even have to step foot outside your front door, because Lumity’s guide to a health retreat from home will have you feeling relaxed, refreshed and revitalised before the day is out.

When you’re feeling a little frazzled the idea of being whisked off for a blissful day at the spa is incredibly appealing. But it’s not always so simple to drop everything and make a dash for a dreamy day out, especially given the current global lockdown.

So why not turn your own home into a calming paradise and stay healthy, save money and still get a decadent experience!

Pick a room

The treatments you opt for will help determine which rooms you want to use for your home spa. After all you don’t want oil dripping on your living room rug or a face mask messing up your nice clean bedsheets.

For most people the bathroom and the bedroom will cater for all your relaxing needs and keep cleaning up afterwards to a minimum.

Choose your music

Silence isn’t often relaxing and can leave your mind open to being filled with all manner of worries and woes. So instead transport yourself to another world with a relaxing playlist that’ll help you chill out.

Light some candles

Set the scene with some scented candles and make the air smell amazing. Pick your candles to match the season you’re in and let them help make a cosy, calming atmosphere. They’ll also light the room in a much more subtle way than the glare of your bathroom bulbs. Popular candle scents for spas include ylang ylang, sandalwood, rose, lavender and chamomile.

Grab your robe

Slip into your comfiest bathrobe and slippers and have some fluffy, freshly laundered towels at the ready too. You don’t want to be dashing around looking for a way to cover up or get dry mid treatment.

Relax pre-spa

Just as you would in a regular spa, take some time before you start your treatments to unwind in another room. Put your phone away and pour yourself a glass of bubbles (we love kombucha!) or have a cup of herbal tea while reading your book or just doing nothing.

Cleanse your face

It makes no sense to kickstart your treatments with a face full of makeup. So the first step in your routine should be to treat your skin to Lumity’s 4-in-1 Cleanse. It’ll remove all traces of dirt and grime, give it a gentle exfoliation, leaving your complexion ready for the next step in the luxury process.

Steam facial

Open up your pores and soften your skin with a steam facial. Pour hot – not boiling water – into a bowl and add some essential oils, such as lavender, or a few drops of Lumity’s Skin Nutrients Facial Oil

You can even add the contents of some herbal teas to your mix if you fancy it. Then place a towel over your head and lean over the bowl to let the perfectly scented steam work its magic for the next 10-minutes or so.

Facial massage

After your steam massage lay back and treat your skin to a facial massage. A-list facialist Nichola Joss swears by the tension reducing, skin nourishing treatment using Lumity’s Skin Nutrients Facial Oil. It feels great and helps tone and tighten skin while moisturising it at the same time.

Foot spa

Doing your own pedicure hunched over your feet, might not be so relaxing, however a warming foot spa is. If you don’t own a foot spa then fill a large bowl with warm water and essential oils. Slip your feet into the water and sit back and relax for as long as you need. At the end of your foot spa you could buff off any dry skin, give yourself a gentle foot rub with some moisturiser and slip your soft slippers back on.

Hand massage

Don’t forget your hands, which might be needing some TLC from all the hand washing. While your feet are soaking you could treat your hands to DIY scrub made up of sugar and Lumity’s Skin Nutrients Facial Oil. Gently rub it on in circular motions, rinse or wipe off and finish with a moisturising lotion.

Hair mask

Let your hair down and give your locks some attention too. A gloss-inducing, hair masque can get to work while you’re pampering yourself in other ways or it can be a stand-alone treatment which will minimise dry tresses.

Have a bath

Top your day off with a candlelit bath. Ease muscles and release tension by adding some epsom salts, bubbles or essential oils to the mix. Lay back and listen to the music or read a good book and let the warm water wash over you.

Eat light

All that relaxation may have worked up an appetite. But to continue with the health retreat from home pick something light to satisfy your cravings. Whether it’s a bowl of freshly cut fruit, strawberries dipped in chocolate or some veggies and hummus, make your mini, post-spa meal as guilt free as possible.

Why not add a yoga session to your spa day? Maude Hirst shared her 21-day yoga plan with Lumity and Nadia Narain has some amazing one-minute, calming yoga routines too.
