Gwyneth Paltrow’s glowing skin beauty secret

-Aug 9, Jenny Paul, Living -

Gwyneth Paltrow has become well-known for living a healthy lifestyle. She has ditched acting and has carved out a career in wellness writing cookbooks and even starting her own lifestyle website. And, she’s never looked better. We take a look at what her glowing skin secrets are.

Behind every glowing, energetic A-list star is an in-the-know health guru and, for Gwyneth Paltrow, it’s Doctor Frank Lipman.

He’s the man that the actress-turned-wellness website entrepreneur, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Arianna Huffington, and Donna Karan all go to when they want health and diet advice.

And, a huge number of beauty and fashion insiders flock to see him at this time of year. His ‘Be Well’ cleanse has become a cult diet trend and is said to work wonders for models who want to get in shape before New York Fashion Week kicks off .

Is a high quality supplement best for my health?

Speaking to America’s W magazine about the advice he gives clients including Gwyneth, the 61-year-old South African-born, New York-based doctor said that he’s a big believer in supplements.

He explained: “It’s the quality of supplements. They need to be targeted. Most people get deficient in vitamin D, omega -3s, and magnesium.

“People are looking for yes or no, or a good or bad answer.

“I think it’s very personal. At different times, different ages, your needs change.”

Why targeted supplementation is best

He added: “I’m a big believer in targeted supplementation. I think the important thing is to take good quality supplements that don’t have fillers, that are absorbed well and actually getting into your system.

“So I think it’s a matter of where you’re at, your personal needs and if you are going to use supplements, use high quality supplements.”

He advises that as well as eating food that is as close to nature as possible (so very little refined sugar, no processed food, and even minimal gluten and soy).

And, he says that we should be aware that if we’re suffering a problem like mild depression that it could be a sign that we need to make some lifestyle changes.

Mild depression could be related to a problem in your body not your mind

Whilst it is always advisable to see your own doctor when you’re suffering from depression, Frank has an interesting take.

“To me, depression is a sign that something is off-balance in your system,” he suggests. “It could come from your gut.

“It should be seen in the context of people’s lives and what’s going on versus something that should be treated by drugs.

“But a lot of people are depressed. I’d say the majority, not all, but the majority of people who don’t have severe depression can be helped with dietary changes, some supplements, some exercise, sleep hygiene, stress reduction, things like that.”

Why Gwyneth grows her own vegetables at home

Gwyneth now grows her own vegetables at home which gives her skin that make-up free glow. (Although we suspect a team of gardeners do the bulk of the digging, pruning and planting).

The star has a fantastic kitchen garden at her house in Los Angeles where she can hand-pick her own courgette flowers, kale, tomatoes and cucumbers to eat.

Whilst not all of us have the time (or even a garden!) to do that, Frank does say that home-grown local fruit and veg is the best option.

“Either grow your own garden or try to buy food from farmers who you know care for their produce and don’t spray tons of pesticides,” he says.

“Farmers who look after their chickens and let them roam free, and who let their cattle feed on grass. The ideal world is to know your farmer.

“The more you know the source and the origin of the food, the better.”

It is all solid sense and aligns with how we feel at Lumity. Our bodies and nature know best. Listen to them and do everything in moderation.
