Caffeine isn’t just an early morning wake up call for Halle Berry, it’s her go to drink when she’s working out too.
The 52-year-old star puts plenty of hard work into maintaining her youthful and healthy physique and regularly shares her diet and exercise tips with her fans and this confession packs quite the caffeine punch!
Halle surprised her 4.7 million Instagram followers by admitting in one of her #PHITTalks stories that she consumes up to four caffeinated drinks during every one of her workouts.
“What I plan on every day when I work out is this Hint Water with a kick,” Halle says. ”You need water to stay hydrated, and Hint has caffeine in it, but it’s a natural caffeine,” she insists. “And I drink three to four of these every workout.”
So what is caffeine water?
Caffeine water is exactly what it say it is, water with caffeine in it. Halle’s favorite variety describes itself as a “great coffee alternative without sugar or diet sweeteners”. But then plain old black coffee is the same right? It is, but Hint caffeine water contains less caffeine and more H20 than a regular cup of joe.
It comes in at 60mg per 16fl oz while an average 8fl oz cup of coffee contains approximately 95mg.
Even so Halle is drinking three to four of the flat or fizzy drinks in one workout totaling at least 240mg during the course of one of her grueling exercise regimes.
Halle has likely done her research though as there are numerous studies which show even a single dose of caffeine can improve exercise performance, burn more fat and increase focus.
There’s no denying that caffeine water is a much healthier alternative to sugar-fueled energy drinks and sodas which the actress confesses she has a craving for.
“I have a soda tooth,” she admits. “I like diet coke sometimes. I keep them locked up, so we don’t have access to them,” she says. That way, “it’s more of a mindful decision to get them out.”
Halle loves the keto diet
Of course it’s not just her caffeinated water which fuels her body for her intense workouts she also follows the much hyped keto diet too.
Halle swears by the very low-carb and high-fat diet to not only maintain her lean frame but to help control her type 2 diabetes as well.
“The keto lifestyle offers so many benefits, such as weight loss (moms, that’s how we get rid of our baby bellies), appetite control, more energy and better mental performance,” she wrote on Instagram. “If you’re like me, you can possibly reverse Type 2 diabetes, you’ll experience better physical endurance, better skin and also less acne (if that’s an issue). And it even helps control migraines!”
If you’re keen to know what else Halle eats in a day here’s a sample of some of her favourite meals and since she’s a fan of intermittent fasting breakfast is often out of the window.
Halle loves a handful of green beans with Bolognese sauce or something like tuna stuffed avocados tantalises her tastebuds.
Arctic Char topped with olive salsa and a side of mashed cauliflower is a go to meal for Halle as is pesto zucchini noodles with heirloom tomatoes.
Keto-friendly mini popcorn cakes and gut friendly raw sauerkraut are two easy snacks she reaches for.
She also loves alternative ’chips and dip’ made with endive heads, crumbled bacon pieces, tomatoes and a blue cheese dressing.
Avocado ice cream is one of her favourites for when she allows herself a sweet treat.
