How hormones could be messing with your hair

Hormones are often at the root of mood swings and breakouts but they could also be the pesky reason behind your hair problems too.
If your once luscious locks are looking and feeling a little limp a hormonal imbalance could be behind it. Thinning hair is often one of the first signs your hormone levels are off whack. Here are five hormonal reasons you could be thinning on top.
The menopause causes oestrogen levels to plummet but testosterone to rise. Since oestrogen promotes hair growth and keeps it in it’s ‘growing phase’ a reduction in it means hair falls out before it gets to it’s normal length.
Testosterone on the other hand can cause thinning hair, so as you lose hair it’s being replaced by weaker, finer tresses.

Once treated with medication however hair loss is normally reversed.
This a condition in which females develop small cysts on their ovaries. In turn the ovaries produce more testosterone than they normally would resulting in a number of symptoms.
Acne, oily skin, excessive facial hair and thinning hair on your head are all signs of polycystic ovaries syndrome – also known as PCOS.

– Improve your diet
Balance the scales and your mood by reducing your sugar intake. Cut back on refined sugars, and replace white pasta and bread with healthy whole grains.
Pack your diet with fruits and vegetables and you’ll look and feel better too.
– Reduce stress

– Get quality sleep
