Beautiful, glowing skin is always your best weapon, especially on a big day like your birthday, wedding, or any other special occasion. Party season kicks off in just a few weeks so it’s worth getting ready for that now, before the invitations start coming in and you start planning out what to wear.
Every woman wants to have a gorgeous glow when she walks into a room, and look healthy and happy.
Good skin starts within; so for at least 8 weeks before any big event, I encourage you to stock up on colourful, plant-based foods and exercise to bring out your inner-beauty.
Drink one large green smoothie per day. Packed with beautifying properties, this gorgeous green blend will make you glow from the inside out. Try to have a blend consisting of at least 3-4 Green Veg and 1-2 fruits. Try my “Glowing goddess”: Blend a handful of kale, handful of spinach, a small bunch of parsley, 2 celery sticks, 1 handful of blackberries, 1 handful of blueberries, 1 Tbs of chlorella and 1 cup of coconut water. Try to choose organic, or locally-produced whenever possible and drink first thing in the morning on an empty stomach for maximum beauty benefits. Do this daily 8 weeks prior.
Stock up on salmon, walnuts, coconut oil, flax & chia seeds: These seemingly unrelated foods all deliver essential fatty acids, and thus are key foods for healthy skin. Essential fatty acids are responsible for healthy cell membranes, which is not only what act as barriers to harmful things but also as the passageway for nutrients to cross in and out and for waste products to get in and out of the cell. Because it is the cell membrane that also holds water in, the stronger that barrier is the better your cells can hold moisture. And that means plumper, younger-looking skin.
…Or add chlorella to your smoothies: This superfood should be named super-skin food: It is amazing for clear and radiant skin, renews cells, & cleanses/supports the liver and digestion. A clear gut means clear skin so stock up.
Hydrate Hydrate Hydrate
Drink 8-9 Glasses of mineral water a day. It keeps your skin soft, supple, and smooth, plus helps flush out fat and toxins. I also love adding cucumbers or sliced lemons for extra cleansing and hydrating effects.
Make a booking for a vitamin C facial 3-5 days before the important day; vitamin C is packed with antioxidants, and your skin will feel and look healthier with a radiant firmer and more luminous complexion. For this occasion give the extractions a miss, to avoid any last minute blemish breakouts.
Choose one physical activity you enjoy. Whether it’s swimming, jogging, walking, biking or fitness classes like yoga, pilates and barre, they will all get your heart rate up making your blood flow and face glow.
Exfoliate at least two times per week starting at least two months before your special occasion using an oil-based exfoliant. (The method kit scrub by Dr. Lancer is amazing.) Exfoliation gets rid of dead skin cells that will make your complexion clear, fresh, and even for the big day.
A good tinted moisturiser like the Illuminating Tint by Laura Mercier will make you look youthful, radiant and keep skin supple, adding to that incredible glow.
