How to pick wellness and skincare products that are kind to your skin and the planet

The planet shouldn’t pay the price for your beauty and wellness regime, so to ensure your quest for the perfect complexion is as green as possible here’s what you could try.

We are all on a mission to save the planet, but that doesn’t mean we can’t look after ourselves too. Our wellness and skincare regimes keep us looking and feeling our best, but if you want to maintain that healthy glow AND protect the planet you could consider the following.

Recyclable packaging

Discovering that your favourite face cream is packaged in a big plastic pot that can’t be recycled is disappointing to say the least. But if the brand aren’t prepared to jump on the ‘save the planet’ bandwagon and alter their packaging to something more environmentally friendly, consider finding an alternative. There are amazing all-natural products in recyclable packaging – like Lumity – which will do wonders for your complexion and leave your conscience clear too.

Avoid glitter

We know glitter adds sparkle but it does nothing good for the world. The shiny sensations are simply teeny, tiny pieces of plastic which are hazardous to the environment. So while it might look lush on your eyelids, think about finding something else to add shine instead. There are now ‘green’ glitters on the market which are biodegradable or try a lick of Lumity’s Skin Nutrient’s Facial Oil which works as a natural highlighter as well.

Choose fragrance free or natural scents

Beauty products are also polluting the air. Hairsprays, deodorants and chemically fragranced products pollute the environment and the air we are breathing in. Also many of the chemicals used to create a scent can have harsh effects on your skin too, leaving it dry and irritated. Opt for all natural products, like Lumity’s Skin Nutrients Facial Oil or go scent free.

Ditch single-use materials

Wet wipes and cotton wool are handy for removing makeup but most are made from non recyclable and non flushable materials and they can only be used once. A soft, reusable wash cloth is much gentler on your skin, the environment and your purse too. There are also reusable cotton wool-like wipes or face wipes which are compostable.

Reuse packaging

If you can reuse packaging rather than throw it into the recycling that’s even better! After your first starter pack of Lumity’s Morning and Night Supplements which come in a glass bottle, you now get refills in letterbox-friendly, compostable pouches. So your glass jar can get reused again, and again, and again.

Wash less

Plastics are only part of the problem. Water waste is a real issue which is why there is a growing trend for ‘waterless’ brands which are focused on cutting down their usage of H20. The formulas contain less or no water at all.

You can also cut down on the amount of water you use in your beauty regime without sacrificing your hygiene or your skin. Consider washing your hair one less time a week, reduce the amount of time you spend in the shower – long, hot showers are bad for your skin anyway – and be mindful about leaving the tap running when you’re brushing your teeth or cleansing your face. Try Lumity’s 4-in-1 Cleanse which is a multi-tasking wonder that you can simply wash off under the shower.
