How to wash your face the right way

-Oct 7, Hannah Hargrave , Beauty -

Washing your face isn’t rocket science but if you want to get the most out of your twice-daily cleanse there are some things you should and shouldn’t be doing.

A little cleanser, a little water, rub your face and away you go! Washing your face sounds easy so you might be surprised to hear that the way you cleanse could be all wrong.

Since cleansing is such an important step in your skincare regime we think it’s vital to get it right. So if you want to prevent breakouts and get a glowing complexion remember it’s not just about HOW you wash your face, it’s about how often and what with too.

Take a little time to add some extra care to your cleanse and measure up if you’re making any of the following mistakes so you can be safe in the knowledge you’re giving your skin its best cleanse yet.

Mistake 1 – Missing your morning cleanse

You may think ‘why do I need to cleanse in the morning?’ when all you’ve done is sleep in a nice, clean bed, but your skin still gets germs from your pillowcase and oil from your hair is easily passed on to your skin too.
It won’t get as dirty as it does in the daytime but it’s still important to cleanse your skin in the morning and start fresh.

Mistake 2 – Washing with hot water

A cool blast of water works wonders for your skin but the same can’t be said for turning up the heat. If you find comfort in a hot shower or facial cleanse it’s time to find that fuzzy feeling some place else. Because hot water will strip the skin of it’s natural oils and make it dry out quickly too.

Mistake 3 – Using the wrong cleanser for your skin type

There are an array of different cleansers on the market nowadays, from gels and foams, to creams and clays and not all of them work for every skin type. For example gels are good for oily and combination skin where as people will dry skin will benefit better from a cream cleanser.
Lumity’s new 4-in-1 Cleanse works with all skin types, which is just one of the many reasons it’s so appealing.

Mistake 4 – Washing with soap

There’s a big difference between a bar cleanser and a bar of soap! If you’re using soap to cleanse your face you could be stripping it of oils and drying it out. While you can buy soap for sensitive skin we recommend opting for a cleanser which won’t be harsh on your complexion.

Mistake 5 – Exfoliating too often

Exfoliation is great for getting rid of dead skin cells and giving your complexion a refreshed glow, but it’s not recommended that you exfoliate more than once or twice a week because you could irritate your skin and leave it inflamed.
That is unless you used Lumity’s 4-in-1 cleanser. Its built in exfoliation is so gentle you can use it every day.

Mistake 6 – Washing too often

It turns out you can be too clean, especially when it comes to your skin. Unless you’ve been excessively sweating or have been using very heavy sunscreen there really isn’t much need to wash your face more than twice a day.
Wash too often and your skin will dry out and become irritated.

Mistake 7 – You don’t moisturise straight away

Once you’ve washed your face the right way you should massage in your Lumity’s Skin Nutrients Facial Oil before your skin completely dries. This helps the skin trap in the moisture and get the most out of the hydrating and nourishing oil.

Mistake 8 – Reusing your towel

You really need to have a separate towel for your face rather than your body and try to use a clean washcloth each time too. Bacteria builds up and spreads easily so a simple way to keep your skin clean and breakout free is to avoid dirty towels and cloths.
