Jennifer Lopez on turning 50: ‘Age is all in your mind”

Jennifer Lopez has joined the 50s club and we would swear she’s ageing in reverse if we didn’t know better. So what exactly does she do to look and feel so good at this magical milestone?
The all singing, all dancing, mother-of-twins continues to defy time and looks as good – if not even better – as she did when she stepped into the limelight over 25-years-ago.
‘I’m still doing what I’ve always done’
But Jennifer isn’t worried about hitting the big 5-0 and it certainly won’t slow her down. Because this Hollywood A-lister is only interested in looking forward, not back.
“I just don’t think of myself as an age,” she says. “I think of myself as me, and I’m still doing what I’ve always done and I’m just doing it.”
‘At some point, I’m going to age’
She’ll admit though that even she’s a bit surprised at how youthful she looks but jokes: “At some point, I’m going to age. They’ll say, ‘She looks old!’ But, right now, I’m holding it together.”
There’s no denying Jennifer works hard to keep in shape and stay healthy and she admits her consistent regime has paid off.
“I’ve taken care of myself,” she says proudly. “And now it shows.”
Exercise is the ‘key to my happiness’
Of course it helps that a lot of her job as a performer means she’s constantly on the move, but her love of dancing does more than simply keep her body in peak condition.
“There’s something about seeing what my body is capable of and feeling the endorphin rush that comes with a good dance session that really helps boost my confidence and my mood,” she admits. In fact Jennifer insists exercise is the “key to my happiness”. Which also explains how she manages to find time for her five workouts a week!
‘I am youthful and timeless’
In addition to exercise – she’s a fan of pretty much anything active – Jennifer does live a very clean life. Her fiancé Alex Rodriguez revealed his future wife “really leans in to the big fundamentals” and gets eight to 10 hours of sleep a night, doesn’t drink and doesn’t smoke either.
On top of that Jennifer says she’s a fan of affirmations and reveals it’s the secret to her positive outlook on ageing.
‘Age is all in your mind’
“I am youthful and timeless. I tell myself that every day, a few times a day,” she says. “It sounds like clichéd b*******, but it’s not: Age is all in your mind. Look at Jane Fonda.”
Although she doesn’t like to think of herself as an age she can recognise that as she gets older she feels better about herself.
“Women get more confident as they get older,” she says. “Men in their 20s are very confident and cocky, and women are super insecure. And then it flips: Men get super insecure, and women get comfortable in their own skin, in a way that makes them more beautiful.”
