Happy birthday Juila Roberts! Everyone’s favourite Pretty Woman just turned 50 and life couldn’t be better for her. The happy mum of three children (twins Hazel and Phin, 13, and son Henry, 10) has plenty or roles coming her way and looks as beautiful as ever. ‘By Hollywood standards, I guess I’ve already taken a big risk in not having had a face-lift,’ she joked in 2014. But surgery (or lack of it) aside, Julia’s approach to ageing has all been about happiness – something she’s found her life getting fuller of, the older she gets.
The actress accredits her successful ageing to her healthy and wholesome lifestyle – including yoga with friends. “It’s about non-grasping, non-hoarding, cleaning out your closet, dusting out your mind and letting go of the things that weigh you down mentally and emotionally,” she explains. “There’s a lightness to my life now – an airy quality of not taking things too seriously. That’s happiness.”
Here’s some of the other fabulous women in Hollywood who are also embracing everything about life in their sixth decade.
The stunning redhead turned 50 earlier this year and like Julia, has never looked better. “I really believe in taking vitamins and supporting my skin with inside health,” the actress told Allure recently. “Besides that, I meditate and stay out of the sun. I’ll eat anything, I’m pretty normal when it comes to that, but I also like to exercise.” On reaching her landmark age, Nicole was adamant: “I feel glad to be able to say I’m 50. It’s not something I try to hide.”
Elizabeth Hurley turned 50 in June 2015 and judging by the array of swimsuit selfies she’s been sharing this year, she’s never felt better! Mum to Damian, 15, the British actress is constantly showcasing her enviable figure in a whole host of bikinis and swimsuits in her Elizabeth Hurley Beach range. And the big smile on her face in her Instagram pics is indicative of her approach to ageing. Grabbing challenges with both hands is the motto she lives her life to and there’s no sign of it stopping as the years pass. “I’m expecting more of the same and then some,” she said of her step into her 50s. “I love my life, I love change and I love new experiences. Saying yes is so liberating; it’s my favourite word.”
Sarah Jessica Parker
Sarah Jessica Parker turned 50 in March 2015, and it didn’t faze her one bit. “I continue to feel like me: on my best days, on my worst days, on days I disappoint myself, on days I’m proud,” she told People magazine as she reached her milestone. “I’m sure later I’ll think about what it felt like. You know, we all look back like, ‘Oh, in my twenties I was this and this.'” And even if she was able to go back in time and let her younger-self know any of the things she’s learned, she probably wouldn’t. “I think any advice you’re going to give yourself is kind of immaterial, because it’s so necessary to have those experiences. You would think you’d tell yourself A, B and C relative to those things, but the truth is, you wouldn’t do it any other way.”
