Louise Redknapp: ‘There’s nothing more lovely than a woman who looks her age’
-Oct 30, Hannah Hargrave, Beauty -
When it comes to her beauty regime Louise Redknapp is all about being natural and as she rings in her 44th birthday we’re celebrating her positive outlook on ageing, plus taking a look at her beauty secrets.
She once admitted she tries not to worry too much about what other people think of her appearance but that doesn’t mean Louise Redknapp doesn’t take pride in the way she looks.
The former girl bander has been in the spotlight for over 25-years starting out in ‘Eternal’ and moving into TV presenting and even a successful stint on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. But we’re absolutely addicted to her website A Style Album which she runs with best friend Emma Thatcher. It’s packed with style, beauty, life and travel advice and is a heavenly way to cheer yourself up when you’re feeling down.
And while she’s done it all at the same time as juggling motherhood she barely looks to have aged a day, so what’s her secret?
‘I don’t often have a lot of different beauty treatments’
Louise doesn’t load up her bathroom cabinet with a million and one beauty products and she doesn’t go spa crazy either. Instead she relies on a few select makeup and skincare essentials and facial reflexology – from her own mum.
“It’s really good for anti-ageing,” she insists of the practice – intended to improve facial muscle tone and firmness – her mother is trained in. “She uses the crystals. It’s great for skin rejuvenation and lifting. So that’s really the one thing that I love to do to pamper myself, and it’s kind of holistic and you get to zone out, especially when your mum does it, so it’s a bit of a bonus.”
‘I hate a heavy makeup look’
Louise is not a fan of too much makeup and for that reason she opts for a tinted moisturiser rather than a heavy foundation.
She also doesn’t like drawing in her eyebrows and wearing a ton of mascara so instead she uses almond on her eyebrows and lashes.
“I’m not really into the fake eyelashes,” but the almond oil keeps them healthy and strong she says.
‘Colour is so important as you get older’
Her natural looking locks are the result of a great haircut and colour because just as she hates overloading her face with too much makeup she hates dragging her hair down too.
Although Louise uses GHD straighteners she tries to minimise the usage and only use them “to smooth out the end of my hair before hair product.”
What product does she swear by for her waves?
“Oribe Texturising Spray from Space NK, it really adds volume.”
‘I take Lumity Beauty Supplement religiously’
Since Louise is all about all natural it makes sense that she’s a fan of Lumity Day and Night Supplements and takes them “religiously” and has fallen for Lumity Facial Oil too.
She admits to learning facial massage from A-list facialist Nicola Joss and “loving the results” insisting the oil has “rejuvenated and brightened” her skin and smoothed out wrinkles too.
‘I’m not against having plastic surgery’
Despite Louise’s passion for all things natural she’s not against going under the knife.
“I’m not against women getting anything done,” she says. “If I wanted to, I would. I just believe moderation is key. I say, look at your options, keep things as natural as you can and don’t go over the top.”
‘I’m not trying to be a supermodel’
It’s clear Louise doesn’t want to obsess over her appearance but that doesn’t mean she can always help it.
”There are certain expectations – even ones we make of ourselves – to live up to,” she admits. “But I think there’s nothing more lovely than a woman who looks her age.”
We certainly agree with that.
