You don’t have to turn to costly cosmetic procedures to reduce the wrinkles around your pout. We’ve got five inexpensive ways to lessen the laughter lines but still bring a smile to your face.
It’s time to turn that frown upside down when it comes to the fine – or deep – lines around your mouth because a few simple lifestyle and beauty changes could make the world of difference.
Unfortunately as we age the ligaments around our mouths and chins loosen and our cheeks tend to sag but if you’re determined to turn back the hands of time or you want to prevent these pesky wrinkles from ever appearing we’ve got some tricks to help you on your way.
Stay out of the sun
We know a tan can make you look and feel instantly more radiant but unfortunately those UV rays you’re basking in also accelerate glycation which ages us.
The proteins in your skin which glycation affects most are collagen and elastin, the same ones that maintain your youthful looking complexion.
So if you have to get your dose of vitamin D at least make sure you wear a high SPF and shade your face if possible.
Take up facial yoga
Facial yoga expert Danielle Collins swears by this simple exercise to lessen the lines around your mouth. Blowing yourself a kiss helps tone the muscles around your lips.
“Extend your lips and blow the air out and along your hand,” she explains.
Repeat this four or five times then press two fingers to your lips and repeat the whole thing three or four times more.

Give yourself a massage
Your face is often forgotten about when it comes to massage but wrinkles can be kept at bay by simply taking a few minutes to massage Lumity Facial Oil into your face and neck morning and night. (A-list facialist Nichola Joss shows you how to do it). All natural Lumity is gentle enough to use on and around your lips too. Not only does the anti-ageing serum work wonders on fine lines but the actual act of massaging helps boost collagen and the elasticity of the skin.
Ditch bad habits
There’s a reason the vertical wrinkles on and around the mouth are often referred to as smoker’s lines. Puckering up for a quick cigarette break is bad for your skin on so many levels. Smoking speeds up your skin’s natural ageing process and sees you become old before your time, but the good news is if you stop your ten a day habit asap you can help restore your skin to a more youthful state.
Change your diet
Too much sugar can leave your skin weak, discolored and cause it to lose it’s elasticity, which leads to sagging and wrinkles.
Opting for a diet more rich in fruits and vegetables will improve the appearance of wrinkles, including the ones around your mouth.
In particular tomatoes are great for banishing fine lines. They are rich in the antioxidant, lycopene – which is a natural sunscreen – they also boost the skin’s pro-collagen levels and keeps your skin’s elasticity.
