It’s important to consider switching to natural skincare. Don’t forget that our skin is the largest organ in our body and what you put on your body goes in your body: Whether that’s nail varnish, shower scrubs, soap or make up.
We had a chat with celebrity make-up artist and all round beauty guru Amanda Ramsay about why it’s so important to pick natural skincare products, and why we should all be giving mineral oils a wide berth.
“I’m on a crusade to educate women on natural skincare and cleaner, greener beauty choices,” Amanda explains. “A bit like reading labels on the food we eat, we should really read what’s going onto our skin. Your skin is the largest organ of your body, it’s living and breathing – it needs to expel toxins (and equally it absorbs what we put on it) so…..take care of it,” she warns.
“My education into 100% natural beauty began when my mother was first diagnosed with breast cancer. Unfortunately, it seems to be the case that it’s not until you or someone close to you falls ill that we perk up and pay attention to these things,” Amanda says. “But it’s not just the health benefits of making greener beauty.”
“I also care about natural skincare products because it is these that truly make your skin glow. When skincare is 100% natural, all the delicious active ingredients an work on a cellular level to deliver the effect they promise,” she continues.
“That is when your skin really glows. Be mindful of cheap fillers in skincare, like mineral oil, it’s the second largest cause of premature ageing as it effectively glad wraps the skin.”
Our new Lumity Facial Oil is made from 100% natural ingredients, A rich blend of plant oils, extracts and essential oils, the citrus-smelling face product not only smells good, it does good too. And our day and night supplements fall under natural skincare too.
And if mineral oil use is the second biggest cause of premature ageing, what is the first? “The sun,” warns Amanda. “Don’t forget your SPF30+!”
