pili nuts are a health boosting wonder
Move aside almond, cashew and macadamia because your healthy and tasty cousin, the pili nut, is coming out of the shadows. We’ve got everything you need to know about this delicious wonder.

The pili nut is seriously underrated, but this incredible buttery tasting treat has some crazily good health benefits which we should all be taking note of.

Where is the pili nut from?

The yummy nut is native to the volcanic soils of the Philippines, but can also be found in some parts of Northern Australia where pili tress have been planted to cultivate their nuts.

Shaped like a teardrop, pili nuts are typically between an inch and 3 inches long and not only are they delicious, they’re amazingly nutritious too.

What can the pili nut do for you?

Help you sleep – Pili nuts have the highest magnesium content of any nut. Since magnesium is a vital component of serotonin and other hormones which help you to relax and induce sleep, the pili nut might just be your answer to getting some decent shut-eye.

Pack you with protein – Many foods only contain one or two amino acids, but not the pili nut! They contain all eight essential amino acids and the nut actually functions as a complete protein. These nuts are incredibly nutritious and can keep you feeling full for longer. Beware that one cup of pili nuts has 650 calories, so while they can act as a meal replacement or healthy snack it’s important not to overdo it since the calories can quickly clock up.

Balance your cholesterol  – Although pili nuts have a high fat content, they’re full of good fats in the form of omega-3 fatty acids. These help balance cholesterol levels and reduce omega-6 fatty acids. A lower cholesterol can help reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

Control diabetes – The eight strong amino acids in pili nuts are useful for both those suffering from diabetes and people who are at a high risk of getting it. The acids help balance blood glucose levels and assist in ensuring the body releases the right amount of insulin at appropriate times.

Reduce inflammation – Pili nuts are natural anti-inflammatories. They are antioxidant rich, so they help eliminate free radicals and in turn reduce oxidative stress. Adding pili nuts to your diet can reduce inflammatory conditions such as arthritis.

Aid weight loss – When eaten in moderation, pili nuts can help you lose weight. They suppress your hunger and keep you feeling full for longer. Balanced cholesterol can boost your metabolism too meaning you’ll burn fat quicker and more efficiently too. On top of that they have the lowest carbohydrate count of any nut.

Boost immunity – Pili nuts have high levels of vitamin E – the highest of any nut in fact – which has been linked to boosting the immune system. The antioxidants the nuts also contain help enhance the immune system’s defence against certain diseases.

Promote healthy skin and hair – The high amounts of vitamin E mentioned above also supports healthy skin and hair.

Look after your bones – Bone mineral density declines as you age so it’s imperative we keep getting the minerals we need. Pili nuts contain calcium, zinc, magnesium, manganese, copper and phosphorous which all help keep our bones healthy.
