A bit of summer sun can do wonders for your mood, your glow and your body – especially if you’ve been working out to look tip top in your new swimsuit. But with the blissful days at the beach and sun-drenched holidays also comes sunburn, mosquitos and the risk of dehydration.
While many of us often just reach for the generic aftersun and bug repellant all natural essential oils can do many of the same things. So if you’re looking for safe and sweet smelling alternatives give the following a try.
Infused water is all the rage and since dehydration can easily happen in the heat why not try adding some food-grade essentials oils such as lemon or peppermint to your water bottle to spice up your H2O a little.
When temperatures start soaring it’s not just a mini fan you want to reach for. You can create your very own cooling mist spray by putting a drop of peppermint and a cup of water into a spray bottle. Perfect for putting in your beach bag or your hand bag for a quick cool down.
You might not realise you’ve had too much sun until it’s too late and if this is the case you’ll want to sort sunburn ASAP. Lavender is a fantastic oil for soothing skin. Mix it with water and apple cider vinegar in a spray bottle and apply to the skin for simple sunburn relief.
Lumity Facial Oil – which is packed with essential oils and other all natural ingredients – is also fantastic for treating sunburn because it helps skin regenerate quickly.
The scent of citronella is a popular one for keeping bugs like mosquitos away and the essential oil – made from lemongrass plants – can be just as great. If you want to apply it to your skin though make sure you mix it with a carrier oil first or it can irritate your skin.
A bloated belly in your new bikini is not what you want. Juniper berry oil – which is packed with antioxidants and has so many health benefits – is great for reduced bloating by improving blood circulation and eliminating excess fluids. You can inhale the lovely scent with the use of a diffuser or when mixed with a carrier oil you can massage it directly onto your abdomen.
