The skincare regime that works for men and women

-Dec 6, Hannah Hargrave , Beauty -

Gender neutral skincare is becoming more mainstream, and one look at this unisex skincare routine and we can see why.

You may think that the skincare needs of men and women differ too vastly to be able to share beauty products, but that needn’t be the case. While you may be used to stealing your partner’s moisturiser once in a while, you likely wouldn’t think of using the same skincare regime start to finish.

But if you’re intrigued how you can free up space in your bathroom cabinet and save money too, here’s a step-by-step guide to a routine that will work for men and women.

Cleanse

The first step in any skincare regime is to cleanse your face. Soaps can be way too harsh for most skin types, so a gentle cleanser which can get rid of the day’s dirt and grime and freshen up your face in the morning is a must.

Most men don’t warm to a sweet and fruity smelling face wash and equally women aren’t as keen on the spicy nature of a men’s.

However Lumity’s 4-in-1 Cleanse is all natural and neutrally scented and its charcoal colour wouldn’t be out of place in anyone’s wash bag or bathroom shelf.

Not to mention how much good it does for your skin! It cleanses, removes makeup, exfoliates – with the help of the jojoba beads – and acts as a facial mask too.

This is a product you may end up fighting over to use first.

Moisturise

Before your face is even dry, grab your bottle of Lumity’s Skin Nutrients Facial Oil and massage a few drops of it into your skin to seal in moisture.

A little of this hydrating facial oil goes a long way and most people feel they don’t even need a moisturising cream too.

The way you apply the oil is important as well. A-list facialist Nichola Joss has an amazingly simple, but effective facial massage which releases tension and plumps up skin and you can do it in just a couple of minutes at home.

For men, if skin is dry after shaving, this oil is particularly soothing.

Supplements

It’s not a product you put on your face but Lumity’s Morning and Night Supplements, which now have a formula for men too, has major benefits for your skin. Remember to consistently take your capsules – 3 for women and 4 for men –  in the morning and before bed, not only for overall improved wellness but for firmer, younger looking skin too.

SPF

It doesn’t matter if you’re a man or a woman, if you’re old or young and if the sun is shining or not,  SPF should be a part of every single person’s life, every single day. While men are more likely to scrimp on the suncream – ruggedly handsome is a thing – it’s still not safe to expose yourself to harmful UV rays which don’t just cause wrinkles they can cause skin cancer too.

Sunscreen is unisex, so pick a mineral lotion of SPF 30 or above and apply it daily to your face and other areas exposed to the elements for safety and smoother looking skin.

Lips

Lip care often gets put to the wayside but a dry, chapped pout is irritating no matter your gender. You can make your lips smoother with a simple lip scrub of sugar and a little Lumity’s Skin Nutrients Facial Oil mixed together and gently rubbed onto lips.

This doesn’t have to be done on a daily basis, but a few times a week will quickly restore your lips to their plumped up, healthy look.

Eye cream

The skin around your eyes is thinner and more delicate so a nourishing eye cream is a great addition to anyone’s routine and there doesn’t have to be a different one for men and women.

Don’t be rough with application though as the best way is to dab the product around the eyes using your finger until it’s mostly absorbed.

This whole routine will take just 5-10 minutes and yet still produce amazing results. Consistency is key though so do it daily – just like brushing your teeth – and make a joint skincare regime a healthy and habitual part of life.
