What’s good for your skin, helps nourish your hair and is an incredible antioxidant? Vitamin E and it’s absolutely fantastic for smooth skin when used alongside a team of other ingredients – we’ve included it in Lumity’s Morning and Night supplements in both the male and female formulas for this very reason!
When we are hoping to have smooth skin we are all so busy focusing on buying products which include the latest buzz-worthy names like retinol and alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) that we tend to overlook more humble-sounding ingredients like vitamin E. Unlike other skincare ingredients, which can cause red, itchy skin if used in large quantities, it’s easy to completely forget to look out for vitamins – which DO have incredible antioxidant skin-smoothing powers.
Vitamin E is a skin softening ingredient in beauty products and formulas and the chances are that you already own several beautifying products that contain it – whether it’s your hair conditioner or hand cream.
We decided to take a closer look at this wonder vitamin and find out why it can really make a difference when it comes to smooth skin.
What is Vitamin E and Why is it So Special?
Vitamin E is a very powerful antioxidant that helps protect and repair damaged cells. It is found naturally in many foods such as avocado, wheat germ, sunflower seeds, almonds, butternut squash, spinach and kale.
How Should Vitamin E Be Used?
It’s not recommended to use vitamin E cream on its own, since it can cause breakouts for people with sensitive skin, but combine it with vitamin C or antioxidant CoQ10 (short for coenzyme Q10) and you’ve got a winning formula.
It can also be taken as part of a team of nutrients in a high quality supplement too.
What Does Vitamin E Do For Your Beauty?
– Thickens Hair
Apply a few drops of vitamin E oil onto your hair, especially if it’s dry, and it’ll help it look healthier. It retains the natural moisture in your skin and promotes circulation which all goes a long way towards improving a dry, itchy scalp and brittle locks.
– Repairs Damaged Skin
Products with vitamin E in them help improve the elasticity of your skin, which means ageing skin can look more youthful again. If your skin has been damaged by environmental stressors vitamin E will also help to mitigate the damage caused by oxidative stress.
– Calms Sensitive Skin
Vitamin E is can calm skin and hydrate it too.
– Hydrates Cuticles
Rubbing vitamin E onto nails will hydrate them, making them less brittle and less likely to break. It also helps strengthen them.
– Reduces the Appearance of Stretch Marks
Stretchmarks appear because skin loses its elasticity over time and becomes less likely to spring back to its original shape. Since vitamin E oil restores skin elasticity and helps to smooth skin it also reduces the appearance of these stripey marks when massaged in regularly.
– Lightens Dark Spots
With age, and often too much sun and free radical damage, comes dark spots on the skin. Mixing the contents of a vitamin E capsule with your moisturiser and applying it to the spots daily will help them look lighter.
