Three DIY face masks for winter skin

With a few kitchen cupboard ingredients you can make your own face packs to enjoy some self-care in the comfort of your home

It can sometimes be hard to feel like you are glowing in the winter thanks to the battering our skin takes from the elements and the drying effects of heating. But with a few kitchen cupboard ingredients you can make your own face packs to repair the damage in no time. Apply all of these to clean, make up free skin.

 

Almond and oats for itchy flaky skin

 

This easy to make mixture can be used on your whole body. It will hydrate at the same time as gently removing flaky, dry skin thanks to its slightly rough texture but the oils in the oats – a fantastic double whammy. The result will be calmer, clearer skin.

1 teaspoon yoghurt

1 teaspoon ground almonds

1 teaspoon honey

2 teaspoons oats

 

Combine all the ingredients and leave to rest for 5 minutes so the oats can plump up. Apply and gently rub on the skin in a circular motion. Leave on for 20 minutes before wiping off and rinsing the skin with lukewarm water.

 

Carrot and honey to regain your glow

 

This face pack is brilliant if winter has left you with dull, patchy, uneven skin. The beta-carotene in the carrots will give your skin a brightening boost as it helps remove dead skin cells and revive those which remain. And the honey acts as a moisturiser while also being antibacterial and antiseptic. for the skin.

1 carrot

1 tablespoon honey

Peel and puree the raw carrot then mix with the honey to hold it together.

Apply and leave on the skin for 15mins before rinsing off.

 

Avocado and olive oil face pack for winter dry skin

 

Avocado doesn’t just do your skin good when you eat it, it’s also incredible when applied on the outside too. The olive oil soaks into the skin easily and helps take the anti-aging vitamin E in the avocado with it. The avocado itself is also full of fabulous oils and will calm and soothe angry dry skin leaving it softer and also deeply hydrated.

I ripe avocado

1 tablespoon olive oil

Peel, de-stone and mash the avocado flesh until it become a fine mush. Stir through the oil and apply a thick layer all over your face. Leave on the skin until dry and then remove with tissue before gently rinsing with tepid water.
