Try these five easy beauty tips for total age blur

These are the five top factors that can age your looks and how to get around them for total age blur!


Thinning eyelashes


We associate thick, full hair – anywhere – with youth, and long fluttery lashes are no exception.  While investing in a decent mascara is a good start, you can take steps to make them more luscious too. First, make sure that you are careful when you take that mascara off. Invest in a decent eye make-up remover and use a soft pad to gently sweep across the area and remove makeup without scrubbing. Rub too hard and you will bring away the lash as well as the products.

At night use a lash conditioner to help them thicken them up or try jojoba oil which is the most popular oil for eyelashes as it moisturises the lashes whilst protecting the hair follicles. This lets lashes grow longer and thicker before they can fall out. Simply dab some on the roots of your lashes after cleansing at bedtime.

Enlarged pores


Our pores can look wider as each year ticks by and they appear more open. If your pores are large anyway they can make you look like you are older than you are. They are also more likely to get clogged which accentuates their size and can lead to spots.

To make them appear smaller make sure that they are totally clean with a morning and night skincare routine. Don’t skip sunscreen, which will help to slow damage to your skin so your pores stay as tight as possible.


Sun spots or age spots


They start off looking like a blobby freckle and then seem to spread. Liver spots, sun spots or age spots can make you look a decade older as they are so commonly associated with ageing. But it’s not your age which brings them on – it’s the amount of sun exposure that you’ve had. So, even in your twenties it’s possible to see them forming on your face and chest, as these areas typically have higher sun exposure. Sunscreen helps for prevention, but if you already have a few age spots and they’re bothering you, then consider then covering them with a dab of foundation.


A thin face


You may have heard the saying it’s ‘your face or your figure’ as you get older and there is some truth in it. Women who are 40 and older who have a slightly higher body mass index look younger than their thinner counterparts, according to a number of studies. This is because when you lose weight you also lose the fat in your face which can hollow out the cheeks. We also lose the fat in our face as we age. Stretched skin also has less ability to bounce back as we age and can lead to sagging. It can be worth avoiding yo-yo dieting as the stretching and emptying of the skin can cause it to sag as you get older.

Facial yoga has been shown by studies to make the cheeks appear fuller and more youthful. You could also try twice-daily facial massage. 

If you are noticing a hollowing of your cheeks you can make them appear to fuller by using a highlighter on the apples. Dark, puffy eyes

The skin around the eye area is very thin and delicate so should be handled with care.  

If they are especially puffy it could be a sign that you are retaining fluid. This can be helped by cutting down on salt and alcohol as well as eating foods like bananas, leafy greens, avocado and tomatoes. Magnesium has been found to be a helpful mineral for reducing water retention.
